Community: The Village of Valley Stream
Valley Stream is an incorporated village ideally situated to take advantage of the cultural activities of New York City and Long Island’s legendary recreational facilities. It has its own government, with an elected Mayor and Board of Trustees; a Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Squad, Post Office, Public Library, Sanitation and Water District. Local residents provide auxiliary police service to our community in association with the Nassau County Police Department.
Most of the businesses in Valley Stream are located along two major arteries: Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway. Small proprietor malls are home to specialty shops, banks, restaurants, and major franchised businesses. Green Acres Mall, the first of the major malls on Long Island, features scores of department and specialty stores.
Many residents commute to work, especially executives who work in New York City, a 30 minute ride on the Long Island Railroad.
A short drive away is famous Jones Beach State Park, considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, as well as nearly 200 miles of public beaches. Nassau County’s famous park system, golf courses, tennis courts, and marina’s attract families and retirees alike.
The community is located one-half hour or less from Aqueduct Raceway, Belmont Park, Eisenhower Park, Hempstead Lake State Park, boating and swimming facilities, Westbury Music Fair, the Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum, as well as the in-town convenience Hendrickson Park and the Valley Stream Village Green.
