The students at the Brooklyn Avenue School participated in "Nature Company" through the Cultural Arts program. It was organized by the BAS PTA and students in grades K, 1, and 2 participated. Mr. Anthony from the Nature Company brought reptiles and a chinchilla. The students experienced hands on lessons involving science and nature. It was a wonderful experience and a great deal of fun for the students.
Welcome Letter From Our Principal
2016 - 2017
Dear Brooklyn Avenue Families,
I am hopeful that you enjoyed an exhilarating and enjoyable summer. The staff and I are very excited to welcome the students and your families back to school. The 2016-2017 school year will undoubtedly be filled with many exciting learning experiences and opportunities for the students to grow. The teachers have worked hard this summer setting up classrooms, planning lessons, and taking coursework to enhance the experiences for the students. Our school secretary and custodial staff have worked diligently this summer to prepare the school for the students’ arrival on September 7th and to ensure that our school building is a learning environment to be proud of.
At the Brooklyn Avenue School, we are dedicated to providing a rigorous and standards-based education centered upon the Common Core. We are excited about the introduction of a new reading series called Journeys in grade 3-6. Our students in grades kindergarten through second grade will continue with the excellence found in the Super Kids Program. In addition, students are exposed to a well-rounded education that includes academics, arts, and social growth. This year, there will be an increased focus on our Emotional Literacy Program. Our students learn and demonstrate empathy and ways to use emotions to positively impact learning, social interactions, and energy levels. Technology is a great focus at Brooklyn Avenue as we prepare our students for the opportunities in the 21st Century. Each classroom has a SMART Board to enable the students and teachers to interactively engage in lessons while addressing different learning-style preferences. The students have regular access to laptop computers as well as tablets to use the Internet to conduct research and obtain information from around the world.
The Parent Teacher Association at Brooklyn Avenue is an amazing group of parents that work tirelessly for our students and families. I encourage you to join and attend their meetings and events throughout the year. The Valley Stream UFSD 24 School Board and central administration provide a great deal of support and encouragement to the Brooklyn Avenue School. We are fortunate to have them and join in their high expectation and sense of commitment to the students.
We look forward to working together to leading our students to exceed expectation and achieve greatness. Please know that the staff and I are available to you and are excited to embark on a prosperous school year.
