Welcome Letter From Our Principal
2018 - 2019
Dear Brooklyn Avenue Families,
I am hopeful that you enjoyed a wonderful summer. The staff and I are very excited to welcome the students and your families back to school. In addition, we are thrilled to welcome our new Superintendent, Dr. Don Sturz, to the Brooklyn Avenue Family.
This school year will be filled with wonderful events and daily instructional successes in the classrooms. The district continues to be on the forefront of 21st Century technology and education. Our students will be immersed in the use of technology across the curriculum as we continue with our device initiative of one-to-one access for every child. Also, our students will experience the innovation of digital Span Boards that will encourage collaboration among students and classes district-wide. A new science program was researched and purchased for our students in grades K-6. The Inspire Science series couples science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to provide our students with knowledge and hands-on experiences that will further advance them into the 21st Century.
Brooklyn Avenue School has been cleaned and prepared floor to ceiling over the summer by the amazing custodial team. I am pleased to inform you that, over the summer, we reconstructed four brand new student-restroom facilities and we will be looking forward to two student-water filtration systems in our hallways.
The Valley Stream UFSD 24 School Board and central administration provide a great deal of support and encouragement to the Brooklyn Avenue School. Also, we are fortune to have a hard working and dedicated Parent Teacher Association (PTA); I am hopeful that you join our PTA and become involved in the exciting events that they host this year.
We are excited to continue the high expectation and wonderful traditions at the Brooklyn Avenue School as we commence to another wonderful school year.
Scott J. Comis, Ed.D.
